Effects of chlorine disinfection on RO membrane biofouling at low feed water temperature for wastewater reclamation

چکیده

Abstract Chlorine disinfection has been reported to be ineffective in controlling RO membrane biofouling some projects. Feed water temperature is a crucial factor the formation of biofouling. It positive impact on wide application process ascertain whether chlorine can alleviate at low temperatures. In this study, effects chlorination feed (10 °C) were investigated by lab-scale apparatus. The final normalized flux was 0.33 and 0.29 with without chlorination, respectively. According decline curve, could not fouling temperature. Based intermediate blocking model, increased potential water. At temperature, biofilm thinner denser than that chlorination. addition, contained more foulants dissolved organic matter Chlorination failed continuously prevent bacteria accumulation but screened out potentially suitable for low-temperature environment.

Mark Wilf Ph. D. and Steven Alt APPLICATION OF LOW FOULING RO MEMBRANE ELEMENTS FOR RECLAMATION OF MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER. Abstract Membrane fouling encountered in reclamation of municipal wastewater

Membrane fouling encountered in reclamation of municipal wastewater represents serious design and operational concern. This is because the municipal effluent, after secondary treatment, contains high concentrations of suspended particles, colloids and high level of biological activity. Application of membrane technology for treatment of municipal wastewater requires very extensive pretreatment ...

Chlorine in water disinfection

Disinfection of drinking-water is one of the main achievements of our time in the protection of public health. The use of chlorine for the destruction of microbiological pathogens is essential to protect the public from outbreaks of waterborne disease. Chlorine, as well as other disinfectants, produces a variety of chemical by-products. The risk from the presence of microbial pathogens in drink...

Ultrafiltration membrane bioreactor for urban wastewater reclamation

A 162-day pilot-scale operation for reclamation of urban wastewater was studied by using an ultrafiltration membrane bioreactor (UMBR). Performance of the UMBR was investigated with a sludge retention time (SRT) of 5, 15, and 30 days, a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 5 h, and membrane flux between 75 and 150 l m−2 h−1, respectively. It was observed that the highest sludge concentration in th...

Disinfection of swine wastewater using chlorine, ultraviolet light and ozone.

Veterinary antibiotics are widely used at concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) to prevent disease and promote growth of livestock. However, the majority of antibiotics are excreted from animals in urine, feces, and manure. Consequently, the lagoons used to store these wastes can act as reservoirs of antibiotics and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. There is currently no regulation or con...

Chlorine disinfection of recreational water for Cryptosporidium parvum.

We examined the effects of chlorine on oocyst viability, under the conditions of controlled pH and elevated calcium concentrations required for most community swimming pools. We found that fecal material may alter the Ct values (chlorine concentration in mg/L, multiplied by time in minutes) needed to disinfect swimming pools or other recreational water for Cryptosporidium parvum.
